Planks - The Darkest of Grays (2010)

A crusty soupy sludge comes The Darkest Days of Grays in gritty form.

Grab if you like: Tombs, Le Kraken, Radare

Planks

Darkthrone - Circle The Wagons (2010)

I'm not even sure why I am posting this, everyone should already have this record anyway? I suppose it is up here for those that are living under a rock and need to become cognizant of 2010's best release. True originators of the genre and forever ubiquitous to black metal. It does everything right.

Grab if you like: Burzum, Mayhem, Funerot

Destroy your modern metal, and bang your fucking head!

Iron Lung - Sexless//No Sex (2007)

A fitting follow up to a Mind Eraser post. Iron Lung is a two piece powerviolence act from Seattle and they have created a record that is essential to fans of the genre. Sexless//No Sex is that essential record.

Powerful segues and shifts are ever present here, going from a blistering pace to a slow heavy and sludgy breakdown-esque passage. Dig it.

Grab if you like: Crossed Out, Man Is The Bastard, Hatred Surge

Pig Hands

Mind Eraser - The Prodigal Son Brings Death EP (2008)

Musical Equivalent to King Kong in combat boots riding a Harley into a sharks mouth. Powerviolence that straight rips through 10 songs in 12 minutes with a crushing force...and for fucks sakes, turn up your volume.

Grab if you like: Weekend Nachos, Iron Lung, Mammoth Grinder

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles (2009)

This is the juggernaut of brutal death metal. Implementing classical music in some of the songs is just fucking awesome, takes me back to the ballroom bar scene in "The Shining" Fuck yes! Though this isn't the coup de grâce by an means, the technicality and pummeling pace is. Spot on.

Here's Johnny!

Vomitory - Opus Mortis VIII (2011)

I downloaded this a while ago, still haven't got around to fully listening to it. From what I heard of it, it sounds like some pretty straight forward death metal, nothing really stood out or grabbed my attention. This may just collect dust in my iTunes. But I figured some of you may want it if you haven't already got it.

The Rodeo Idiot Engine - Fools Will Crush The Crown (2011)

I was given this Mediafire link directly by the band or label for me to post on my blog so that internet vultures such as yourselves can listen and critique this on your own. This blog isn't and never will be a musical brothel for label promoters to spread their infectious scummy disease (I kid, it's their job, and an effective one). Though, if I like what I hear and want to help spread the word then I will do just that.

Here we have some blackened mathcore that could be compared to Celeste, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Shora, and Vatican. Fast paced, angry, technical topped with the perfect production for this type of album. My only disappointment has to be that the band or label never contacted me to do their design work, death to generic album art. Ups to good tunes!

2011 Vintage

Prepare to be bombarded.

(Preview of an upcoming album I will be posting. Guess which one. You can't do it.)

I mean fuck, we both know I haven't been keeping this fuck hole of a blog updated enough this month. Which leaves me with only one choice as a man, I must now over compensate...kinda like those dudes who only work out there arms and wear skin tight Tapout shirts to hide their small penile dysfunctions and shit.

Expect to see plenty of more posts and links, and for fucks sakes, say something in the comments thread, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy deep in my loins.

SET PHASERS TO BOMBARD.

Ed Gein - Bad Luck (2011)

Bad fucking luck, we all experience it from time to time. Some more than others, but Ed Gein as a band have experienced a fuck lot. Broken into, robbed, lost, crashed, stolen, time after time.

This album is about packaging all the rage one would experience during a string of bad luck into a solid 22 minute release. Same ol' Ed Gein approach, balls to the fucking wall grind.

Seizures - Antipathy (2011)

You will like this. You must like this. This is good. Good it is even. Do you want me to just shut the fuck up and explain to you what this is? Fine...

Here we have a dark and dreary blend of sludgey hardcore that will punch a priest in the face, because fuck priests that's why. It's good at being heavy, it's good at being fast, and most importantly it's good at being good. The production is done right, and the "little things" they do to stand out impress me. (example on song Cowards from 2:07-2:17)

Touché Amoré - Parting The Sea Between Brightness And Me (2011)

"If actions speak louder than words, I'm the most deafening noise you've heard. I'll be the ringing in your ears, that will stick around for years!" Well said, though it doesn't particularly describe the very essence of this album. Emotionally charged hardcore, apathetic and pumped with the fury of a famished grizzly bear.

Cutthroat.

Khann - Erode (2011)

The un-bastardized child of post-hardcore, borrowing and infusing elements of early 90's screamo, Mastodon-esque passages with the drone of Kylesa and intensity/oddities of The Number Twelve Looks Like You.

Grindcores GG Allin

Seth Putnam, front-man of Anal Cunt died yesterday due to a heart attack. He did indeed live and die by his own rules.

Dying is fucking gay.

Origin - Entity (2011)

The first 11 seconds to the opening track pumps out more BPM that most would strive for...or maybe not, after all this sort of instrumental wizardry and wankery can sometimes lead to flat songs that become rather lifeless, ah la Brain Drill.

Don't get me wrong, it still gapes assholes with every listen and Origin are among the kings of the castles in this instrumental sorcery. Origin easily remain the loudest and most intense set I have ever been able to witness. 'Metalheads' were finding themselves cowering and covering their ears. (some were even forced to walk out on the set due to bleeding of the ears). This was however when James Lee was still vocalist with his high shrieks that could sink a ship.

Enough rambling, all in all, this newest effort is still a damn ferocious slab of technical death metal.

The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual (2011)

Here it is, nice and early. I haven't really had anytime to listen to much of the album yet due to extreme business and travel. (Hence the lack of posting, which will be made up for you fine gents in due time)

From what I have gathered off a couple quick listens is the expected TBDM formula except a bit more raw in sound. I dig it, you may not, you may not even want to call this death metal, but your wrong...and nobody really cares.

If the link becomes broken at any point, please let me know. Enjoy

Here is the final cover I made:

If you haven't heard of these drunkards yet, do it now.

Bad Religion - How Could Hell Be Any Worse? (1981)

Today is special. Why is today special? Well, today marks exactly 30 years since How Could Hell Be Any Worse? was released. That's right, 3 decades.

I probably couldn't love my first born child as much as I do Bad Religion, nor should anyone else. Brett Gurewitz, Owner of Epitaph Records and guitarist of Bad Religion took a 1,000$ loan from his old man to finance this punk beast. Which inevitably opened up a portal of kick-assery to the bands big and bright future. Enjoy this one kids.

Fuck Armageddon...This Is Hell
