Portrayal of Guilt - Let Pain Be Your Guide (2018)

•  †  •

This one has my attention for some reason, which I find mild interesting because it feels like something ripped out of my past, a bygone era of halcyon days and unsure moments in time… And it has all the markings of something I don't find myself indulging in much these days, sonically speaking. I know very little about Portrayal of Guilt, but I like Gilead Media (mostly) so I'm hoping this plays out similarly to Full of Hell's Trumpeting Ecstasy.

Ed Gein - Bad Luck (2011)

Bad fucking luck, we all experience it from time to time. Some more than others, but Ed Gein as a band have experienced a fuck lot. Broken into, robbed, lost, crashed, stolen, time after time.

This album is about packaging all the rage one would experience during a string of bad luck into a solid 22 minute release. Same ol' Ed Gein approach, balls to the fucking wall grind.

Sikth - Death of a Dead Day (2006)

2nd release by Sikth, and also their last. Nuttier than squirrel shit, but from a musical standpoint these dudes have managed to bring something almost entirely new to the progressive metal sound. This is more than just progressive however, It is heavy, technical, melodic, bizarre and carefully crafted.

KEN mode - Venerable (2011)

Forgiveness please, its been a while since I have posted and this will change...starting...(takes swig of Grolsch)...(takes bite out of cold pizza-pocket)...now!

K so fuck, this sounds like a lumberjack in a dense forest during a two week amphetamine bender. Abrasive metalcore that weaves in an out of intensity. C4 yourself.

Catharsis - Samsara (1997)

The album is called Samsara, and I am pretty sure the vocals are done by a pack of ravenous wolves. These surprisingly articulate wolves snarl their hate for God in just about every song, and that is awesome. "Good little wolves! Hey, stop gnawing on my arm!"

Example in song: Every Man For Himself... And God Against Them All

The wages of sin are freedom, and though the wages of freedom may be death
Is it not better to live with uncertainty than to fear to draw an honest breath?
So scrape the veil of faith from your eyes
Your prayers ascend like black smoke to the empty skies
Under your carnivorous god of deceit, maybe just maybe do you feel incomplete?

Ok, so maybe the vocals are done by a man. I am guilty of hyperbole quite often, and this will become increasingly apparent as you peruse this blog. (Which I ask myself, why do you waste your time here?)

In short, this album is blaspheming 90's Metalcore, so click the link below and download it.
