Panopticon - Kentucky (2012)

Oh my fuck. This album. I sense a lot of time being invested by myself on this release by Panopticon. It's the whole package; Rich atmospherics, successful instrument experimentation, a cohesive and unique theme on the mining/coaling in Kentucky, interesting segues and shift between long songs and a whole lot of audio sampling pertaining to said theme (Which I must admit, sometimes kills off some of the momentum). Everything just sounds… human. Which is a breath of fresh air nowadays. Also, the more I type in this paragraph the douchier everything starts to sound. Fuck.

Saw this on the Bands Facebook page;

"As promised, I have donated $1000 of the money I will make from the new album to Kentuckians for the common wealth, helping the people of Kentucky and helping to stop mountain top removal. It is important to me to protect this land I love so dearly. In just a few short weeks I will have new merch and lps up on the big cartel page so that you can contribute if you wish."

I myself will definitely be buying that 2XLP.

Agalloch - Faustian Echoes

“Faustian Echoes” is a single, two-part song based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s epic masterpiece “Faust.” Reaching over twenty minutes, “Faustian Echoes” is the longest song Agalloch have ever written.

Fucking Agalloch man, a band that doesn't do anything half-assed, and to them, my hat is off. I look forward to their show in Toronto on the 23rd of July.

Deathspell Omega - Drought EP (2012)

Get this, right now. Deathspell Omega have made a slight return in 2012 to deliver us an EP, which only makes you salivating for a full length. Spanning 21 minutes, this EP reaches into your soul and takes a heaping shit into your existence.

Sigur Rós - Valtari (2012)

It's beautifully forlorn and engaging. It improves sleep patterns dramatically. It makes you question your existence. It's profound without all the lore. Everyone should pontificate upon the direction of their life, use this album as the soundtrack for it.

Karcavul - Rawktaver (2012)

A perfect way to fuck up your mood, the band deems their sound to be "necro doom extreme". It leaves you feeling as if you had been raped by the all-father while you lay weeping, bloody in the shower. Happy fathers day!

Falls of Rauros - The Light That Dwells In Rotten Wood (2012)

"North Appalachian Heathen Black Folk Metal" (as described by the band)

Distant, raw, organic, atmospheric, archaic, can all be used to describe this album. So I will use them, even though words like that are so often thrown around it eats at my conscious just typing them out. I want to come up with a new system towards writing about these albums, instead of using all the placeholder adjectives that best describe the sound of an album I'd much rather just say shit like "Hey fuck, this is some good ____________, download it or forever be a cum receptacle.".

We'll see.

Ulver - Bergtatt: Et eeventyr I 5 capitler (1995)

Here is an album that would sound fucking perfect on vinyl, I have been searching for a vinyl copy for a little while myself (If you have one and you're stupid enough to let it go, I'll buy it )

•  •  •

I'm thankful for the dudes who early on explored the possibilities within black metal and found elements they could blend perfectly within the camps of black metal. Instead of focusing on the occult and church burning nonsense, Ulver approached black metal with its roots imbedded deeply into folkore and archaic qualities.

I say Bergtatt: Et eeventyr I 5 capitler is the perfect album for vinyl because it has that warm textural you could almost feel, and it is deeply layered and raw.

Stay tuned, I'm actually going to start posting a lot of shit this coming week.

Age of Taurus - In The Days of the Taurean Empire (2010)

Alright, you don't like me and I don't like you, but let's agree on one thing collectively. Age of Taurus fucking rule, right? Right.

Doom and gloom heavy metal commonly compared beside Candlemass, Reverend Bizarre, but uncommonly akin to Atlantean Kodex and Hour of 13 both of which I fucking love and have posted here before. Unfortunately both Mediafire links have been taken down, so I will go out and search the cyberspace to find new ones. (help accepted!)

A Tauren mid-swing about to chop the head off a praying knelt woman with his crude battleaxe, oh and fire and smoke. Yeah, that sums up this record. Just fucking get it.

Also, I take it back, I like you guys.

Aborted - Global Flatline (stream)

I'm going to go see these dudes tomorrow, so I'll probably be jamming this album for most of the night tonight while I try to get my head out of my ass and into my graphic design homework. Global Flatline fucking rules, here is the full album up on youtube.

I'll upload a download link along with it if anyone wants it, just tell me to become un-lazy in the comment section and I'll rise to duty like a 60 year old limp dick on a Viagra bender.

Dead Lord - No Prayers Can Help You Now

Four Swedes hanging out having a blast, krieg as fuck. Fenriz has discovered them, now all they have to do is ride the wave of underground sensationalism, just ask Ghost.
